JCC Policy Initiatives: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UFF RECOMMENDATIONS

The Minister of Justice has been given the responsibility to come up with an action plan for implementing the 91 recommendations of the Uff Report.

That was a leading part of the discussion at the very first post-Cabinet Press Briefing hosted by this administration on 1st July 2010 speaks to its prominence - as reported in the Trinidad Express Newspaper

"...Minister of Justice Herbert Volney has been given the responsibility of developing an action plan over the next six weeks for the implementation of the 91 recommendations of the report of the Uff Commission of Enquiry into the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) and the construction sector..."

The JCC wrote three times to Minister Volney in 2011 (4 March, 4 June and 8 August) to offer our assistance in that exercise and there has never been a reply or acknowledgment. See the letters here:

Please note that on 1 May 2012 the JCC wrote to request an early meeting to discuss the highly questionable procurement process in respect of the proposed Judicial Centres and our delegation met with the Minister of Justice on Friday 4 May 2012. The non-implementation of the Uff Report recommendations formed an important part of those discussions with the Minister of Justice and his team. Our letter subsequent to that meeting is seen below.
